A Long-term Investment To Be Found In Family Housing

Chris Horne, editor at Property Hawk, has advised those looking into becoming landlords to invest in homes suitable for families, as these properties offer a bigger return in the long term.

The expert, who stated that in comparison to flats, that are currently over supplied in the market, houses that are large enough for families give the investor a greater, and also safer, long term advantage.

These comments come in response to a report published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, which found that new tenant demand from families was outstripping supply in the three months proceeding July.

Rents have continued to increase in price in response to this rise in demand, and even though the research suggested that the rate of growth has slowed somewhat, there is still a large percentage (34%) of surveyors stating that rents increased.

Mr Horne stated, "Also, a lot of families now, rather than buying, are actually looking to rent. There is increasing demand from families who traditionally would have bought houses and are now either deciding not to or are unable to afford to get on the housing ladder.

He further observed that currently landlords are recognising the opportunity and taking advantage of the current changes in the market by providing increasingly for the family market.
