A Sound Investment To Be Made In Student Housing

A property expert has stated that there are excellent investment opportunities to be found in student housing, providing people who are looking to add to their property portfolio or simply earn an additional income with a secure means of keeping their money.

The director of student investment and development at Savills, Marcus Roberts, said it is increasingly seen that investors are focussed on student properties found in "quality locations".

This comes after it was recently revealed, in a report issued by Knight Frank, that student property is now the UK property sector that receives the most investment. Returns to be made within regional accommodation of this type totalled 14.65% in 2010.

Mr Roberts stated that student property has been very beneficial to investors lately, and is set to continue providing this positive return, as a result of the dynamics within the supply and demand of student housing, and the growth of this particular rental market.

However, although it would appear that the increase in student numbers would suggest a good investment, there may be a levelling out of these numbers once the changes in tuition fees and instigated.

He further advised that "What you need to do is look at the strength of the university and the university city that you are investing into and, more particularly, the location. What we are seeing is a flight to quality locations in terms of investor appetite."
