Consumer Watchdog Calls For 'Tripadvisor' Style Rating Of Landlords

The consumer watchdog, Consumer Focus has called on lettings agents, landlords and deposit schemes to register for online feedback so that tenants can provide feedback on their experiences of them.

To bring attention to the poor service provided by some landlords, Consumer Focus suggest developingt of a 'Tripadviso'" style website to help tenants select the best and avoid the worst landlords. 

Moreover, MPs are being asked to back an early day motion calling for such website provisions.

The EDM has been tabled by Greg Mulholland, and states: “That this House welcomes the Consumer Focus Opening the Door report; acknowledges the need for an independent tenant feedback scheme on the performance of their landlords; believes that empowering tenants in this way would lead to a marked improvement in the standard of some landlords’ behaviour; notes that only 15% of tenants surveyed were able to find all the information they would want to know about their landlords and over a quarter could find little or no information at all; and supports the idea of an online ratings website for private renters to provide feedback on the conduct of their landlords.”
