Landlords Express Concern At Housing Benefit Changes

Landlords attending the National Landlords Association Conference have expressed concern at the Coalition Government's proposed changes to the provision of housing allowance.

Landlords discussed a range of issues affecting the letting of private residential property in the UK.

Keynote speaker Neil McDonald, director of housing management, homelessness and support directorate, communities and local government, examined topics including the local housing allowance.

"We fully appreciate that letting to housing benefit tenants must remain a sound business proposition. We recognise that having a reliable rental stream is fundamental," he added.

NLA Chairman, David Salusbury observed that the conference was a "huge success". However, it remained clear that many landlords are still anxious in regards to government cuts, access to finance and direct payment of housing benefit, he acknowledged.
