Landlords To Profit As Tenants Face Rising Rents In 2011

A survey by property portal Rightmove suggests that 41.7% of tenants believe rents will be higher in a year's time.

Of 2,636 current and prospective tenants asked, 55% indicated that they would like to buy a home now, but cannot afford to do so. Only 13% stated that they had no interest in home ownership.

With rental stock down 23% in comparison to a year ago, Rightmove says there is little likelihood of a stall or even slow-down in rent rises.

Miles Shipside, Commercial Director, said that are cases of gazumping in some areas, and he described some tenants as “trapped renters”. He said they were unable to get on the property ladder because of the high deposits required and restrictive credit scoring criteria.
