Much Of The UK Reliant On Rental Property

A sector specialist has predicted that the trend of dependence on rental property in the UK is expected to continue in the months ahead.

Many people cannot get a footing onto the property ladder and as a result are continually renting property to live in.

Independent property specialist, Malcom Harrison, said that the rental market is stronger than it has ever been, and will persist to be so if these property purchasing difficulties continue.

49% of landlords believe that the rental market is a sound investment, with only 1% believing it is time to decrease their portfolios, data revealed in an up to date poll performed by LSL Property Services. The survey went on to show that 86% of the landlords questioned were preparing to sustain or build upon their portfolios over the coming

Overall, 86 per cent of landlords are planning to maintain or expand the size of their portfolios over the next 12 months, with 68 per cent of landlords expecting tenant demand to increase in the same period.

Landlords are correct in feeling positive about the future of the lettings market and the investment in their portfolios, as until more houses are built and mortgages gain in ease of accessibility, the lettings sector is going to continue to thrive.

The expert asserted that "There is no house building, there is a shortage of decent housing in many areas and you can't get a mortgage, so quite a lot of people are going to be very dependent on buy-to-let investors.”
