Rental Demand To Be Further Bolstered By Increase In Tuition Fees
The requirement for private rental property is on the rise as prospective students seek an inexpensive alternative to university accommodation, a need that has arisen in response to rising tuition fees.
The director of HomesForStudents.co.uk, Jonathan Moore, has explained that in a bid to save money parents and their teenage children are seeking out cheaper accomodation alternatives, such as flat and house shares, pushing demand up ‘considerably’.
Citing findings by the Russell Group, he noted that a saving of over 9% can be made by students and their parents by renting with a private provider instead of going into university supplied halls of residence. As a result, competition within the private rental sector is set to rise, with landlords reaping the benefits.
Mr Moore continued, stating that "This trend will be even more accentuated in London. Students studying in the capital are set to benefit the most, according to our figures, where the savings reach almost £2,000 over the course of a degree by renting from private landlords.”
With the increase in demand for private rental opportunities, flat and house shares are likely to increase in importance in all significant areas of the country, especially the capital.
