Struggling First Time Buyers Keeping Rental Property Demand Strong

The housing market remains tough for first time buyers who, unable to purchase, are continuing to rent and driving up demand for rental accommodation, an industry specialist has claimed.

This is despite enthusiasm and imagination being demonstrated by sellers eager to see their properties sold.

Jane Marr, company director at the Little House Company, commented that sellers are "bending over backwards" to secure a sale. She added, "We also have had sellers who refused a low offer made to them a few months back, going back to potential buyers and restarting negotiations."

Ms Marr explained first-time buyers are still struggling to get on the housing ladder and this is causing a "market blockage". The rent to buy trend - which is popular in Australia and the US - is also developing in the UK, she said.

For Rory James MacLaren-Jackson of Property Agency Training, the high level of demand for rental properties is welcomed by the agents trained by the company, especially through their Letting4Success training channel.

He said: "The fact that those unable to buy are renting is creating a very strong demand for rental accommodation and, in turn, a demand for agency services from landlords."
